First Past the Post

While checking out some old, disused railway line earlier this month, I found myself in the blink-and-you-miss-it town of Morundah in the Riverina district of New South Wales. It is always exciting when you stop at little townships. You never know what you are going to find.

Morundah did not disappoint. It has Toolbox, the extraordinary sculpture of a horse and jokey which was placed in the main street, back in December 2009 . The work of talented Andrew Whitehead, the sculpture commemorates one hundred years of picnic horse racing in Morundah.

And why Toolbox? Perhaps because every tool in the shed went into its making!

Bark Picture Gallery

This old red gum caught my eye last week. It stands beside the Torrumbarry Weir on the Murray River, having so far escaped the axe and chain saw. On later, closer appraisal of the photograph, I started seeing pictures in the bark. For example, a dog of the hound variety, an under-the-weather Kingsford Smith in his leather pilot’s helmet, Meryl Streep hiding behind a tree and so on. What do you reckon? Am I barking up the wrong tree!
